Head Start Healthy Start is a campaign to increase the number of children and families served by Head Start and Early Head Start by securing additional funding from the state legislature. The Head Start Healthy Start campaign includes educating legislators about the benefits of Head Start and Early Head Start at the Statehouse and in local communities. It also includes development of legislation and lobbying. With generous support provided by the American Heart Association's Voices for Healthy Kids campaign, the Head Start Healthy Start campaign works with local program staff and participants to build strong support from legislators across Idaho.
Head Start Healthy Start was busy during the 2019 legislative session!
Head Start and Early Head Start staff, parents and alumni came to the Statehouse for three presentations to legislators.
Fifty Head Start and Early Head Start staff, parents and alumni met with thirty-six legislators during the Annual Conference on February 6.
Forty-one parents, alumni and staff attended the Head Start Healthy Start Leadership Training February 4 and 5.
Sixteen legislators attended the IHSA Awards Luncheon on February 6.
Executive Director Bill Foxcroft made a presentation on Head Start and Early Head Start to the House Education Committee.
Four staff members from WICAP's Payette Head Start participated in Home Visiting Awareness Day at the Statehouse on February 19 and met with ten legislators.
The campaign will continue in local communities where staff and parents will visit with legislators at their centers and at community events.
